Just do the thing that I did with the lines. Now we move to the knobs, which in my opinion is the easiest way to tell if a guitar is fake. On the genuine article, letters and numbers are all of the same size and spacing. The spacing between the letters and numbers may not be uniform. The fake one is easy to spot: The first two letters are bigger than the numbers. This is shown also or the bottom of the two bottom tuners. Looking at the diamond, you can see that if you draw a line on the top of the two top tuners, the diamond should be a tad below that. The angle of the picture screws this up a little, but you can still tell it is badly cut. Lastly on the headstock, it is very clear on the fake that the headstock is skewed, and not cut correctly. Also make sure the screws are legit size, they look decent in the fake picture though. Perhaps this is because of the oversized washers.Īgain moving down, looking at the TRC, make sure it is roughly the same size, the far left screw should be just below the 5th string (when in playing position). On the real guitar, the tuner does not overlap the binding at all, but on the fake it clearly does. Moving down, you look at the middle right tuner, and you can see that it is way to close to the edge, on the real it has more room. On the fake it is almost directly below the middle, and on the real it is more to the right. Starting with the logo, on the fake it is tilted too much, and also look where the "h" is placed. This picture has a few things wrong with it. The only known fakes are 07 and up, if your Epiphone is a MIK or anything other than MIC you should be fine. The information only applies to 07 and up Made in China Epiphones. I make no representation about it's accuracy, although, it makes pretty interesting reading.and I wouldn't buy an Epiphone LP from ANYONE without considering it. The information is just a collation of information from the web. Please note that I am not an expert in Epiphone LP’s. Don't seem to be many fake SG's out there at the moment.Īpart from the obvious (ie sellers from Asia) there are a number of Epiphone LP's on ebay that tick all of the boxes as fakes. The fakes seem to be mostly PL customs, Silverbursts and Zakk Wylde's. I should cite the following sources of information: There didn't seem to be much about it on this site and, not being able to find one particular site that has it all, I ended up collating information from all over the place.
Epiphone sheraton serial number location how to#
There are plenty of fake LP’s out there and I had no idea on how to spot them. The obvious thing that confronts you is the question of whether or not the advertised guitar is the genuine article…. This started from me having too much time on my hands this Christmas and just browsing for Epiphone LP’s on ebay.
